A case of Mental Disorder
Wife of Kensing Rongpi
My name is Kensing Rongpi and I am a resident of Sar-et Hanse Village, Howraghat. My health broke down in the year 2005, when I suffered from mental disorder. I suffered the worst in 2009, when I became a complete lunatic. I became very frightened for some unknown reasons. Due to this reoccurring tormenting fears, I spent at the roof top of my house for 15 days and nights. During those days, I was feed with a bamboo pole.
The scorching heat of the sun during the day, deteriorated the condition of my heath. After I got down from the roof top of my house, I climbed up a tree and spent a tree-top for two months without getting down from the tree; food was offered to me with a bamboo pole; though I got down from the tree after two months, I was still very frightened because the spirit creatures seems to follow me anywhere I go; they even planned to harm me; they even know what I was thinking and what I was about to do. This very thought frightened me a lot.
The villagers did their best to control my movement by tying me up but failed to curtail my movement in the long run; when the villagers informed the police, they could subdue me only after I had calmed down. My family members took the help of pagan priest and sacrificed fowls and goats as per the requirement of pagan ritual ceremonies; we have spent more than Rs.50,000/- for all the necessary ritual items but the cure could not be found and everybody thought that, I could ever be a normal person again.
My life took a turn when Christian evangelists gave us a visit from Howraghat; their prayers and support in the name of Jesus Christ completely healed me back to a normal person again; all the heaviness within me was lifted up. I accepted Jesus Christ and was baptized on 21st September 2009. Today, I am completely a changed person; my friends and relatives were astonished to see the miracle taking place in my life. God loves me so much for He comforted me and delivered me from the darkness in my life. I found the One True and Living God and I have peace of mind in Him, today. Since my baptism, I suffered no symptoms of mental disorder till date. I know Jesus Christ is the only God and He alone has the power to overcome all evils in our lives.

My husband suffered a lot because of his mental illness. He would behave very strangely and was afraid of some unseen creatures; he used to hide himself inside a room holding a Matchet (knife) and pieces of broken bottle in his hand, as if waiting for his enemies and is even afraid of the presence of children. During his stay on the roof of our house, water and food was supplied to him with the help of a bamboo pole and my children would cried out: “Father ! Get down”, but he would not respond to anybody. We became very desperate with our situation; my father-in-law also did not know where to turn to; we took the help of all pagan spirits and visited temples but could not find cure for my husband. We consulted many temples such as Lumding Road, Rongmonjir, Rengbeng and Howaghat and also consulted Bhaktitom [sanskritcised karbi spiritual guru] but it was in vain. We have spent about Rs.80,000/- for necessary ritualistic items. The priest also required from us a huge amount of money for performing the rituals; some Rs.15,000/- to Rs.20,000/- and at times, the fees went up to Rs.30,000/-, and we consented to the best of our efforts but it was all in vain.
Family members have also donated their savings for my husband’s healing but it was again all in vain. The villagers tried their best to take control of my husband but they could not control him in the long run. So they called on the police personnel but they were also helpless; they even thought of shooting him down from the tree top. It was a miserable situation for us. But God has been gracious to us, that my husband is alive today. During those days, at times, my husband would venture out to an unknown destination and I would follow him as I would never leave him alone to himself. At one time, myself and my child went without food for 3 days, in the process of following after my husband. I followed my husband in the dark night in the woods of Doboka Reserve Forest but thank God we returned home safely as God is so merciful to us.

The villagers tried their best to take control of my husband but they could not control him in the long run. So they called on the police personnel but they were also helpless; they even thought of shooting him down from the tree top. It was a miserable situation for us. I am so thankful to Ms. Selina Rongpharpi and Ms. Prom for interceding for my husband’s mental condition and it was their prayer support that, my husband’s health began to improve and I also began to have faith. Now my husband is completely healed in the name of Jesus Christ without even having to spend a penny. Today, we have accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord.
